What Rosie Shared With
Oprah
I recently
watched Oprah’s interview with Rosie O’Donnell, who has a new documentary about
families on HBO that she was promoting. What struck me most about the interview
was Rosie’s realization that she had been carrying around some old stories
about her life for a very long time. Most people know that Rosie lost her
mother at an early age, 10 or so I think, and that she had to become a kind of
caregiver and provide support, emotional and otherwise, for her family. She had
a lot of understandable anger and hurt around the issue of her mother’s death
and about being left so young by someone so beloved who is supposed to offer a
lifetime of unconditional love.
I’ve
often wondered what makes so many motherless daughters so successful, like
Rosie and Madonna. Do their mothers become angelic lights from beyond, helping
to ensure the success of those much beloved daughters they left behind? Or are
young women who lose their mothers early on in their lives motivated and almost
driven to make their mothers proud of them and leave their mothers a rich
legacy of all their achievements?
I’m not
sure, but Rosie did go on to some fabulous successes and gave her mother and
her whole family much to be proud of with her fame, fortune, family life and
big and giving heart to charities and causes. The shadow side, however, was
also present, and probably caused a number of Rosie’s well known brouhahas and
relationship issues.
Carrying Around Some
Old Stories
When
Rosie met her new girlfriend Tracy, she was still sharing some old stories about
her life.
I wonder
though how often those old stories come back into Rosie’s thoughts. I know that
the subconscious has some powerful tapes that keep running the show until
either some new tapes replace those thoughts through hypnosis and other therapeutic
means or until the cellular memory of unpleasant remembrances is released from
the body energetically.
There are
many different ways of doing this and I am hoping that Rosie knows about some
of them to help her on her journey so she does not return to that subconscious --
or even conscious -- realm of lack and loss. If she does, at least she now
understands about a completely different way of looking at her life and can
choose to return to her new and much more positive perspective.
A Program to Help
Release Old Stories and Create New Ones: “Aligning with Destiny”
My friend
and spiritual teacher, Anita Pathik Law, a minister, shamanic and Theta healer,
and author and radio show host, will begin a new class on
The
material includes wisdom and life lessons that the two of them offer, along
with meditations and many techniques for helping students shift from fear to
faith and from lack and scarcity to abundance and prosperity. From shifting the
language that you use and the stories that you tell yourself and others about
your life, Anita and
In
between classes and sometimes during classes, they offer powerful guided
meditations that help to rewrite negative subconscious tapes to positive ones
filled with hope, moving students forward on a new trajectory to help them meet
their personal goals and pursue new dreams. When old stories and thoughts begin
to shift, when you feel better about yourself and your life, and when you have
more trust and faith in a divine plan for your life, then your life and the
outward manifestations of it also begin to shift -- sometimes in miraculous
ways.
I have
taken that class and use the insights that I’ve learned in it every day. I’ve
since gone on to take some other wonderful spiritual classes with Anita, and
all of them have enriched my life in immeasurable ways.

Are You Living in a
Home that Feels Like a “Real Home”?
Then she
asked, “How many of you have created homes in your adult lives that feel like
‘home’ to you now?” Many more people raised their hands. Rosie might not have
had the kind of “home” that felt like a real “home” after her mother died, but
she created the kind of home that felt like a “real home” as an adult. And,
after her separation from Kelly, she is now creating another kind of home for
her family with, it seems, much deeper self-wisdom.
What Stories Are You
Carrying Around that Define Your Life?
So I
began wondering how many of us are holding on to old stories of the past. What
stories about your own life are floating around in your heart, mind and subconscious?
Are they stories of lack and loss or are they stories of transformation and
abundance? If you check in with those stories, are you telling the truth to
yourself and others about your life?
What do your inner stories look like? Are they dark and stormy with just a hint of a new day dawning? Photo by Donna Poler.
Are your inner thoughts calm and serene as two swans swimming happily and peacefully together? Photo by Donna Poler.
Are your inner stories ones that are blossoming into a garden of rich possibilities for expansion, success and great abundance? Photo by Donna Poler.
Are you
acknowledging all your accomplishments and how far you’ve advanced from where
you were? Are you holding on to old grudges and resentments, hoping they will
affect those you are angry with when they may only be serving to poison your
own heart and thoughts?
Rosie says that as she shares some positive thoughts
about life with her children, she is also teaching and reminding herself about what’s
important. I bring up these questions with you to also remind myself about the
progress that I’ve made in my own life. And I will always be working on
shifting my thoughts and transforming my own inner tapes, opening up to hope,
faith, trust, prosperity and alignment in service to myself, my life purpose
and in service to people and their pets.
Are You Holding on to
Old Stories about your Pets?
If you
are, it may be time to reassess the stories you are sharing with yourself and others
about your pet. You probably have written an amazing new story and your pet is
happy to be living that new life with you. Let go of the past and start to look
forward. Your pet will notice when you let go of telling old stories and start
living in a more dynamic present.
One of my
wonderful Tellington TTouch instructors, Kathy Cascade (http://www.spiritdog.com) worked with one
of the dogs who was rescued from Michael Vick’s dog fighting ring. His name is
Alf and if you go to YouTube, you will see the new story that Kathy and his new
guardian have helped him write. To see Alf’s transformation, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwcklYDCVMo.
A
Tellington TTouch student in CA, Linda Troup, is currently working with another
dog named Iggy from Michael Vick’s dog fighting ring. Understandably, Iggy has
many fear issues. He is in the midst of changing his story. You can read about
Linda’s progress on her blog, http://TouchNpaws.blogspot.com.
Please send lots of love and prayers for Iggy’s transformation. I know
Tellington TTouch will help greatly with that transformation, as it already has
for Alf. I’ll be talking more about the wonders of The Tellington TTouch Method in future
blog posts.
Take an Honest Look at Your Own Inner Stories: Are You Ready for a
Shift?
What about your inner stories? Is your glass
half-empty, half-full or very full? And if you are seeing an empty or
half-empty glass, what are you doing to change it? And how are you seeing your
pet’s bowl? Is it still empty or half-empty? Or has it long ago been filled with
lots of love and light (and delicious food)?
After you read this post, if you are someone who
has been holding on to old stories about your pet, say a prayer of thanks for
your pet coming into your life and being such an awesome teacher. Then give your
pet a hug and kiss and shift to a new way of looking at your pet’s life and the
life you have created together. There is so much abundance already in merely
loving and being loved by your pet.
If your dog is currently in a difficult “life
story” right now and needs help shifting, I’d highly recommend contacting a
Tellington TTouch practitioner in your area to work with your pet. You can go

You are so welcome, Karen. Aren't positive shifts like precious gifts? Wishing you continued, positive, uplifting shifts from fear to faith, from doubt to certainty and from worry to clarity and confidence. Love, Donna

Hi Maria,
Yes, sometimes other stories do come up, kind of like peeling an onion and getting down to some core beliefs that underlie all those stories. It's the work we all have to continuously do to keep transforming and moving forward or else we get stuck in some old stories. Indeed, if you feel stuck in some way in your life, a good idea is to check in on the stories you are telling yourself about that issue and see if you can shift them.
You are so welcome about the info on The Journey. I also feel called to take one of The Journey workshops too. The Journey also deals with stories and beliefs that can hold people back and that can contribute to illness.
Wishing you lots of love and light on your "Journey" Mystical Maria,
Donna

Wonderful post, Donna.I have a lot of stories and thankfully I am rewriting many of them now.I am sure this will be a life long process!
Love, Christyl

Thank you so much Christyl. We all have a lot of stories. That's wonderful that you are re-writing many of them. It is an ongoing process for us all. I think, though, the more you re-write, the easier it gets to shift to the positive and see the glass as full (or "half-full" as Rosie would say).
Since I know you love butterflies, perhaps that can be your personal symbol of transforming some stories stuck in cocoons waiting to emerge as new, beautiful butterfly stories.
Love,
Donna

I, too, had old stories I used to tell and relate to. They are gone now as I realized many years ago that the person in those stories is unrecognizable to me now. I no longer even know that person but at the same time I honor and respect the path that has led me to where I am today. I like me! I wouldn't be the "me" I am today without having been the "me" I was. Like most people there are things I would do differently if given a chance. But there is no point on dwelling on what could have been done differently and even so I don't know that I would actually have made changes if it meant not crossing paths with those near and dear to me today.
Yes, we all have old stories that helped create who we are, good or bad.

Hi Linda,
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I think you have a wonderful way of looking at your "old stories" and for honoring them as stepping stones to where they have led you today. In a way, by honoring those stories, you are also honoring lessons you learned along the way and also the divine timing and the divine plan of your life. Thank you again for sharing so eloquently about the significance of your stories, both the old and new ones. May all your new stories be ones that will continue to enrich your life and the lives of others, both two and four-legged. :-)
Love and blessings,
Donna
